Ralphie Rough Road

While visiting Washington State last summer, we had the opportunity to visit friends of mine I had not seen in fourteen years.  Within minutes it was like we had never been apart.  We had such a great time we ended up staying an additional day.  So glad we did.  Our friend took the day off from work to take us to Artist Point.  Located at the very end of Mount Baker Highway, Artist Point offers spectacular 360 views of both Mt. Baker & Mt. Shuksan.  What an added bonus to our trip to have the chance to see some of the most beautiful scenery Washington State has to offer.  In my opinion, the state is one of the most beautiful in the U.S.  With its lush green valleys and beautiful snow-capped mountains, I could easily move there.

On the way to Artist point, we made a quick stop off at Nooksack falls.  This beautiful waterfall actually splits off into two falls plunging 88 feet into a deep canyon. Because they are tucked back in a heavily forested area, viewing the falls can be tricky and dangerous. Caution and common sense are advised.

Once we arrived at Artist point, I was blown away by the views. The drive up Mt. Baker Highway was worth it to have such unobstructed views.

As I was taking in the sights I forgot to note which mountain was in view.  Mt. Baker or Mt. Shuksan?

Regardless of the mountain’s name, it is certainly beautiful with wild flowers in bloom in the foreground.

Every turn offered stunning views.  Snow and mountains reflect in snow melt water that has collected.

I could have stayed here all day.  The absolute peace of this place was astounding.

We cannot thank Chris enough for such a wonderful tour of Artist Point.  However, he recently visited us in Indiana and we had a great time playing on our property, hanging out and enjoying some delicious beverages.  We were unable to match the views he showed us but he enjoyed himself nonetheless.

Please note:  Check road conditions before visiting.  Typically the road to Artist point is open from July until late September/early October.  However this year the road opened on May 14, the earliest opening ever.  Source: http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/Northwest/Baker/ArtistPoint
