“The Golden House” by Salman Rushdie

Finally finished my first book of 2018 (actually finished it last week, slow getting this post out). This one took me longer to read than I anticipated. With a page total of 380, it was not terribly long. However, his writing style is a bit different from what I normally like. At times I found myself disinterested in the novel and at other times fully engaged in the story.

I will be honest it was a bit of a tough read for me at times. I almost cast this one aside to move onto another book. In the end, I am glad I stayed the course and read it in its entirety.

It made me think, it challenged my reading and comprehension and I ended up enjoying the story.

Set during modern-day American politics, the story follows the Golden family from their roots to their move to America.   It draws a few parallels with our current US president.

In the end, I would recommend this book. It is challenging in some places but the book has a lot of underlying messages and the storyline is interesting and engaging.

Published in 2017, it is a modern day novel of the trying times we now live in.

Please note this is my own personal take on this book. I do not receive compensation. This is simply a space I use to share books I have read. Reading is such a big part of my life and I wanted to include it on my blog.
